THINKER

DREAM Act?

“What is the dream act?” you might wonder to yourself, the dream act is A Bipartisan legislation proposed by Senators Orin Hatch and Richard Durbin. The act is intended to help undocumented youth on their journey of six years towards conditional citizenship. The act only helps the youth if they were brought to America when under the age of 15, (If you were brought to America and you were older than 15 you don’t qualify.) you must have had been in America for at least 5 years and also you must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.  Only applies to individuals who entered the U.S. as children. The DREAM act would also make the U.S. more competitive in the global economy, with that said I support the dream act.

According to the nonpartisan congressional budget office, The DREAM act will have important economic benefits. The DREAM act in its current form will cut the deficit by $1.4 billion and increase government revenues by $2.3 billion over the next ten years. Taxable income to our economy could add up to $1.4 to $3.6 trillion because of the DREAM act. DREAM act will allow our integration and boarder security experts focus on those who could be potential serious threats to out nations security. D.H.S. can dedicate their enforcement resources to detaining and deporting criminals and those who pose threat to our country. All in all that’s my stance and why I support the dream act.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Opposite

  1. From my observations of other Yampah students. I have noticed that I have acquired many skills that have helped me with my behavioral choices and decision-making.

  2.  My grades are passing in all of my classes, both Yampah and Rebound.

  3. Not including this trimester I have 21.44 credits.

  4. My ZAP scores constantly average above a 3.5 out of 4.

  5. In the past I have caused a ruckus and have been stupid when it comes to making decisions but I now own my emotions in a way that most in this school building couldn’t even fathom

  6. I have gotten quite good at using the DBT skills I have learned. When I get into a situation where I feel threatened or on the verge of losing control I have trained my brain to let what ever is pissing me off slide out of my mind with ease. (Teflon mind)

DBT is Dialectical Behavior Therapy, there are four critical skills

  • Mindfulness: experiencing the present moment.

  • Distress tolerance: coping with painful events.

  • Emotional Regulation: recognizing feelings.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Setting limits and      negotiating solutions.
